Creating Personal Google Mail for your Company

google In this post I’m going to tell you how to make benefit of Google Mail. Google has a free feature for google aps. It’s where you can have a personal web mail for your company. If you have a domain name of yur own for example jamsoi.com, and wants to have email for your domain (user@jamsoi.com). You might want to enable Horde, Squirrelmail or Roundcube in your Cpanel webmail on. But that would means, using your free space in your hosting as database for all the mail. That might not a good idea if you just like me, a blogger with no profit oriented organization.

Instead using the preexisting web mail feautures in your hosting you might want to try the free google aps. It’s a one of the coolest google feature that allowed your mail domain hosted at google using the powerfull google mail. So how’s the trick to using it. First you need list down the requirement before continue.

Do you have the access to your domain setting. Can you log in to your cpanel ?

If you happen say Yes to question number 1 then you might actually can do this.

1. Let’s go to google aps main page and choose sign up
step-1 google aps home page

2. choose standard edition (if you wanto try the premier edition you can stop reading this and click the begin trial) for free edition.
step-2

3. Enter your domain name
step-3 enter your domain name

4. Fill in all the mandatory field
step-4 fill in
and agree with the term and condition
step-5

5. Wallah… you are 80% done. To activate google as your company or domain mail service. You must verify the domain ownership. You can either upload an html file into your root domain or you can create CNAME records with your domain host. The last one need your isp. We shall use the first one.

here’s the excerpt from google aps on how to Set up email delivery by Changing Mail Exchange (MX) records

1. Delete any existing MX records before entering new MX records.
2. For each MX record, enter information according to the entries in the following table.
3. You may not be allowed to enter the priority values exactly as they appear in the table below; in that case,
4. simply ensure that the server addresses are prioritized in the same order as they appear in the table. (i.e. 5. The priority ranking [1, 3, 3, 5, 5, 5, 5] should work just as well as [1, 5, 5, 10, 10, 10, 10] so long as you keep the addresses in the right order.)

If you’re asked to specify the type of each record you’re adding, enter “MX”.

MX records often require the specific format of DNS records, including a trailing dot (“.”) at the end of any full-qualified domain names (e.g. “server.example.com.”)

Set any TTL values to the maximum allowed.
MX Server address Priority
ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 10
ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 20
ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 20
ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. 30
ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. 30
ASPMX4.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. 30
ASPMX5.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. 30

that’s it. It takes 48 hours for google to verify. When I tried it, it takes almost 2 hours for google to verify it. Now you can point your company or domain mail by using google mail service at http://mail.google.com/a/your_domain_name. If you want change it into more familiar link like http://mail.your_domain_name.com then you might ask your isp to change your mail.your_domain_name.com redirect into ghs.google.com.
